It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanni Battista De Marchi. Gino passed away peacefully at his home with his wife at his side.
Gino is survived by his wife, Susan–semicolon– daughters, Jenna (Kevin) and Dana (Nathan) and in Italy, his son, Demetrio (Iglis) and daughter, Candida (Marco)–semicolon– grandchildren, Andrea, Kevin, Keaton, Laura, Ben, Livy and Gia–semicolon– sisters, Maria Luigia, Fernanda and Gemma–semicolon– brother, Massimiliano and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gino was predeceased by his parents, Giulia and Giuseppe–semicolon– sister, Candida and his brothers, Camillo, Lorenzo, Armando and Leonardo.
After immigrating to Canada from Italy in 1956, Gino worked for Batoni Construction where he made many lifelong friends. His work in construction took him all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and into California and Florida. He
will always be remembered for his strong Catholic faith, his love of gardening, cooking and wine making, his sense of humor and repertoire of jokes, his incredible work ethic, and above all, his dedication to his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Santa Maria Goretti Church, 9110 – 110 Avenue, Edmonton with reception to follow at Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre.
