It is with profound sadness that our family must advise that Germaine passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving husband, David with her family by her side on January 11th, 2023, at 11:50 a.m.
She was predeceased by her parents, the late Jean and Philomene (nee Bothorel) Floch.
Germaine is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband, David; children, Gregory Randell (Janice), Kevin Randell (Joan) Cheryl Dejanovic (Miso); and stepdaughter, Lenore Harvey-Lamouche. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Garret, Cole, Matt, Cody, Kendi, Autumn, Chantelle, and Levi; as well as great-grandsons, Cooper and Mason; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Floch and Merle Floch.
In addition to Germaine’s parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Jeanne (James) Reagan, Marie (Arnold) Stephansson, Philomene (Edward) O’Reilly, Reine (Wilfred) Watt, Pauline (Armand) Picard, Dr Louis (Merle) Floch, Paul (Ruby) Floch, and John (Lula) Floch; and many other family relatives and dear friends.
Germaine enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in Flin Flon, Manitoba. She loved to figure skate, swim, and play basketball. Germaine was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of her high school women’s provincial basketball championship victories, while attending and graduating from Hapnot Collegiate High School. She also attended and graduated from St Mary’s Academy Winnipeg, MB, completing and receiving a commercial business course certificate.
She moved from Flin Flon to Fort Saskatchewan, AB, where her children from a previous marriage to Donald Randell were born. Germaine was a very talented athlete excelling in curling, winning two provincial zones as skip, golf, and skiing. In addition, she was an excellent duplicate bridge player and enjoyed all manner of cards. She was a great sports fan and loved watching football cheering on the Edmonton Eskimos, NFL Green Bay Packers, and of course, the Edmonton Oilers (she particularly liked Mark Messier who she referred to as Mess Markier).
She was a fashionista, dressing with impeccable style, always with a little bling, just enough to be tasteful. Makeup, lipstick, hair styled, and nails done were a must for Germaine. She was extraordinarily beautiful, both inside and outside. Germaine was a true Angel. Germaine and David enjoyed almost 51 years of an unwavering wonderful, loving marriage. Germaine was David’s business partner for many years serving as Chief Financial officer of Monarch Insurance Brokers Ltd, which David and Germaine founded in 1975.
She and David enjoyed many trips and cruises through the world, visiting the UK, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Maui, Mexico, Fiji New Zealand, Caribbean Islands, Croatia, Greece, Spain, Turkey. She also spent many winters in their home in Scottsdale, AZ, and summers in their Kelowna residence.
The most important thing to Germaine was her family and friends. She loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with unconditional love. She was truly the matriarch of our family, planning a multitude of family dinners and occasions. Germaine would plan the menus, but David was the chef. She loved to be with family and friends. She truly embraced life with inexhaustible exuberance, truly displaying her “joie de vivre” at all times. Germaine was a strong, sensitive, loving, genuine and giving woman. The family has had a Private family Funeral Liturgy, with a Celebration of Germaine’s Life to be held in either April or May 2023. An announcement will be published with respect to the Celebration of Life, at a later date.
David and family wish to send special thank you to Germaine’s wonderful physician, Dr Robert Flook, who provided exemplary care for Germaine. In addition, we wish to acknowledge and thank Elizabeth and Hirit of ExquisiCare at Home, Claudette of Bayshore Home Care and also Ashley, Germaine’s RN case manager of AHS Palliative Care at home.
Memorial Donations may be made in Germaine’s name to Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, 5241 Calgary Trail NW Edmonton AB T6H 568 or charity of your choice.
