Gerald (Gerry) Russell Hostyn, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his residence in Edmonton. He was born on December 13, 1928 to Joseph and Vera Hostyn.
Gerry was predeceased by his wife Irene and all four of his brothers. He is survived by his five children, Marie Michaud, Joyce Hostyn, Donna Barton, Jan Hostyn and Joe Hostyn, and 12 grandchildren.
Gerry served as a pilot and officer in the RCAF and led a life filled with adventures. He loved flying and seeing the world. Bridge, cribbage, birdwatching, gardening, intellectual sparring matches and watching sports (especially golf, curling and tennis) kept him happy in his later years. He was also a very proud grandfather – nothing made him happier than bragging about the accomplishments of his many grandchildren.
There will be no public service. In Gerry’s honour, please stick on a baseball cap and take a moment to enjoy the birds.
