Gerry Cox passed away peacefully with loving family at his side on March 24, 2022 at 86 years old.
Born in Edmonton to George Allan and Doris Sylvia Cox, Gerry lost his adoring mother when he was only 8 years old. His favorite Uncle and Aunt, Harold and Florence Woodward, helped out with Gerry spending many enjoyable summers of his youth living with them at their farm near Winfield, AB.
Gerry met the love of his life, Chrissy (Bray) at Strathearn United Church when they were teenagers, and they began their wonderful 45-year marriage in 1957. The arrival of their first child interrupted Gerry’s pursuit of his engineering degree at U of A and launched his cherished 48-year career at Lockerbie and Hole Limited. Many of the most notable high-rises and buildings that dot western Canada benefited from his handiwork.
Gerry loved tending to the family acreage outside of Sherwood Park and caring for his horses. It reminded him of his beloved childhood days on the farm. Gerry was an avid golfer with 5 hole-in-ones. He had many dear friends from the Belvedere Golf Club, where he was a long-time member. Mom and Dad enjoyed travels together around the world, as well as their home in Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed golf and the company of many good friends.
Dad was a kind and gentle man who had a life-long soft-spot for the underdog. He was patient, steadfast and unflappable. He had a remarkable ability to get along with and bring out the best in everyone he interacted with. He was loved and deeply admired by many. We have been extraordinarily blessed to have him as our father and grandfather.
Gerry was predeceased by his wife, Chris, in 2002 and his brother Dennis in 2021. He is survived by his brother, David; daughter, Lynn (Mansel); son, Doug (Karen); grandchildren: Ben, Mariel (Mat), Alison and Morgan; several ½ brothers and sisters, all of whom will greatly miss his presence. He was also predeceased in 2022 by his friend in later life, Mary Chesney.
Gerry’s family would like to thank the incredible staff of MacTaggart Place Residence who tenderly cared for him in his final months.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday April 14th at 2:00 PM at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home (10011 – 114th Street, Edmonton, AB). To view the livestream of the service, please click here.
In keeping with Gerry’s love of animals, if desired, donations in memoriam can be made to the Edmonton Humane Society (13620 – 163 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta T5V 0B2).

We wish to express our condolences to you Doug, and your sister Lynn on the passing of your father. I appreciated the friendship with your father, with fond memories at Lockerbie and Hole in Calgary.
