The Gregg family would like to announce the passing of their son, brother and uncle, Gabriel “Gabe”. Gabe passed away suddenly in Edmonton at the age of 31 years.
He was raised on Quadra Island and attended school in Campbell River. At the age of 18, Gabe hitchhiked to Whistler to work as a carpenter and pursue his snowboarding dreams. He lived in Pemberton for several years before returning to Vancouver Island where he established a construction business, Greyswan Construction, in Nanaimo. Gabe was an avid rugby player and recently left the Nanaimo Hornets RFC to play for the Strathcona Druids RFC in Edmonton. Gabe will be remembered for his gracious, warm smile and loud, croaky voice. He had an upbeat outlook and was loved by all. Gabe was a true friend to all those who knew him and in his last gesture of goodwill, Gabe donated his organs to several recipients.
The family would like to thank all his friends, the Nanaimo Hornets RFC (in particular, Patrick Milford), the Young Professionals of Nanaimo, and the Strathcona Druids RFC (especially Chal Smyth) for the support during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Gabe’s will be held at the Quadra Island Community Centre, 970 West Road, Quadra Island, B.C., at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nanaimo Hornets RFC, where a bursary has been established in Gabe’s name.

So sorry for your loss, I met Gabe through my son Ben & daughter-in-law Ashley with whom he was living. I would meet up most days with him as I was picking up the dog. He was such an amazing, upbeat young man, I feel so blessed to have known him. You raised a wonderful person who will be truly missed by all of us who were lucky enough to have crossed his path.
