In the early hours of March 6, 2013, Fedora passed peacefully into heaven at the age of 91. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Alex, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Fedora will be lovingly remembered by her six children: Richard (Joan), Edward (Janet), Robert (Corinne), Clifford (Barb). Brenda (Terry), and Keith (Anne)–semicolon– 21 grandchildren, and 15 great-children.
Recently living in Kelowna, BC, Fedora was born and raised in Balmoral, New Brunswick as the oldest of 11 children (4 brothers and 6 sisters). She left home at 18 and moved to Toronto where she worked as a tailor and then joined the Women’s Royal Navy Service (WRENS) in 1943 where she served as a seamstress both in Canada and overseas. It was during her time as a WREN that she met and married a young sailor named Alex. Following the war, Fedora and Alex moved to Saskatchewan where they worked together on their farm and started raising a family. They moved to Edmonton in 1966.
Fedora will be remembered as being a gentle and calm woman of great faith and wisdom. She was devoted to caring for her husband and children who fondly recall her beautiful sewing, hand-knit sweaters, homemade buns, and pies.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Edmonton on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Annunciation Roman Catholic Church (9420 – 163 Street) with internment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

To Uncle Alex, Richard, Ed, Bob, Clifford, Brenda, Keith and family.
Our sincere sympathy, the distance that separates us makes it difficult to truly express the sadness felt with the passing of our Aunt Fédora. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
I’ve recently read the Shillington family book and found it very inspiring. I`d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Aunt Fédora and Uncle Alex for having served our country and made such important sacrifices on behalf of all Canadians.
Respecfully,
Conrad , Patti, René & Corey
