Peacefully and surrounded by her family, our Mom/Grandmother passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2020 at the age of 83 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Martin Urbina (Wanda), Emma Fleck (Brent) Abel Urbina Jr. (Suzanne); grandchildren: Paul Fleck, Brian Fleck, Andrea Urbina, Kyle Fleck, Nicole Urbina and Bradley Urbina.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Abel Urbina Sr.
Ema came to Canada from Mexico with her husband and children in 1972. She left behind a thriving small business and the comforts of home and extended family. Ema was a devoted mother to her children as well as the neighbourhood’s kids. She was compassionate, funny, carefree and very hardworking. Upon arriving to Canada, she saw the opportunity to re-invent herself and loved her job as a cabinet maker and later cabinet finisher in the paint department of Bow Wood Craft in Calgary before falling ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her disability did not stop her from teaching Mexican Folkloric Dance to many members of the Mexican community in Calgary as well as participating in festivals around Alberta.
As a grandmother, Ema found her second wind and devoted every moment of her waking hours to making plans for daytrips with the grandkids. She was a kind and considerate friend to many of her peers. She will be deeply missed by all.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Unit 1, Recreational and OT Departments of the Youville Home for their care and compassion.
A private service will be held at the family’s request.
