
It is with deep sadness and much love that the family of Douglas William Van Allen announce his passing on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton following a brief battle with cancer, at 64 years of age.
He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his beloved wife and best friend of 40 years, Cheryl (Lewis) Van Allen–semicolon– children, Steven Van Allen (Becky), Rachel Virani (Aly), and Sarah Van Allen (James Midgley)–semicolon– grandchildren, Shenice, Jade, Margaret, Avlyn, Jacob, and Emerson–semicolon– siblings, Teany (Christine) Van Allen, Debbie Toohey, Dave (Carey) Van Allen, Pat Holmes, and Gloria Van Allen–semicolon– as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a proud father and loving Poppa.
He was predeceased by his son, Jonathan Douglas Van Allen–semicolon– father, Stanley John Edgar Van Allen–semicolon– and mother, Vera May Wallace. He was the eldest of 6 children who were born and raised in eastern Ontario.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Penhold Senior Drop-In Center, 3001 Minot Street, Penhold, Alberta. Interment will take place at a later date in Edwardsburg Township, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in Doug’s name to Old MacDonald Kennels, Palliative Care Ward of Red Deer Regional Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

So sorry to hear about Doug . I hadn’t seen him in a very long time , but we were in grade 2 together at the Brouseville public school .We played checkers every lunchtime. It’s sad to know he’s gone . When was Doug’s birthday? Was he born in 52? He was a real trooper .. tom byers
