It is with deep sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of our mother, Doreen Golden of St. Albert on April 24, 2019, at the age of 86 years. Doreen was surrounded by her adoring family when she passed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Penny (Chris) MacDougall, Linda (Mike) Saltibus, Thomas (Andrea) Golden; Sandra (Keith) MacKinnon; her 11 grandchildren: Shane, Kayla, Tamara, Terence, Catherine, Patrick, Luke, Kaleb, Kathleen, Reed, Troy; sister-in-law, Carol Golden; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Doreen was predeceased by her son, William (Bill) Golden; grandson, Brett MacKinnon; and her parents, Horace and Fern Preston.
Doreen was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She eventually married and started her family in Hinton, later moving to Edmonton, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, and finally settling in St. Albert in 1974.
She was a skillful driver and enjoyed a lengthy career as a bus driver for the
St. Albert Public School District and St. Albert Transit. Although she thoroughly embraced the challenges and rewards of safely getting her passengers to and from their destinations, her passion was always her sports.
Doreen spent all of her free time playing tennis in the summer, and badminton and racquetball in the winter—eventually turning her passion into a part-time career. Those who were fortunate enough to have received tennis or racquetball lessons from her will never forget her supportive and motivational coaching style.
Her positive outlook, giving spirit, and contagious laugh will be remembered by all.
Our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Youville Home for the respect, compassion, and care given to Doreen in her last years there.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s request.
