“The heart hath its own memory”*, and our hearts will forever hold dear the memory of Darlene Monette, who passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2021, at the age of 67. In Darlene’s words, “It looks like the Big C wins this one”. She had faith, though, that loved ones who had gone before her would greet her “on the other side” with smiling faces and open arms.
A lifelong Albertan, Darlene lived in Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray, and St. Albert. She worked in banking and customer service, but her true passions were music and the written word. She LOVED to sing and play the piano, and was a gifted poet and voracious reader of mysteries. She was also a cross stitch and crochet artist, a news and pop culture junkie, a devoted soap opera fan, and she always dressed up, which of course meant many, many, many happy days spent shopping. A few other of Darlene’s favourite things: cotton candy, baking, sunflowers, crossword puzzles, slightly sarcastic humour, the colour yellow, and a fine sunny day. May her soul now forever be filled with rays of golden light.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, John; devoted daughter, Donna Wait; mother, Edna Flemmer; sister, Janet; brother, Doug (Sheila); and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Clarence.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, at Connelly-McKinley Saint Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert.
All attendees will require photo ID and proof of vaccinations, or a negative Covid test within 72 hours.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Darlene’s memory directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.
