It is with heavy hearts the family of Daphne Joyce Aitken announce her passing on December 29, 2017 – one week away from her 89th birthday.
Daphne is survived by: her three daughters Deborah (Wolfgang), Heather (Mike) and Dorothy–semicolon– her niece and close friend Marilyn Burkett, her niece Deslie Shillabeer and her nieces and nephews of the Aitken and Burkett family–semicolon– her sisters-in-law Helen Burkett and Marjorie Aitken. The family would also like to recognize Daphne’s special long-time friends: Judy and Robert Hora and their son Rob.
Daphne was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband, George in 2012. The youngest of the William W. Burkett family, Daphne was also predeceased by her parents, seven siblings and several nieces and nephews.
A homemaker extraordinaire, Daphne was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. An invite to her house for a meal was always a delight. Many relatives and friends received home baked treats at Christmas and other important occasions. Daphne’s daughters each have their favorite memories of the dresses Daphne sewed, sweaters she knitted or homemade donuts rolled in sugar that were a regular treat during summer holidays.
Always in a hat and gloves, Daphne maintained her stylish demure right to the end.
A Memorial Service for both Daphne and George will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, AB.
