On May 16, 2022, Alfred “Al” Chow; loving husband of Bonita; caring brother of Daniel (Mary Fritch), and Eugene (Linda); proud uncle of: Amy, Bret, Cary, Kelsey, Kevin and Sara; passed away after a battle with cancer.
Al was a passionate retailer employed by SEARS for over 36 years. Following his NAIT graduation, he started as a management trainee at the SEARS Park Plaza store in Edmonton. He accepted challenges and promotions throughout his career until his retirement in 2006 as one of the national managers at SEARS headquarters in Toronto. Through work, he had the opportunity to visit SEARS stores across Canada on a frequent basis, met fellow retailers and maintained contact with many of them even after retirement. Al was a proud Canadian who visited all the provinces and territories and enjoyed the contact he made with other fellow Canadians.
Al and Bonita very much enjoyed travelling and have visited all the continents except for Antarctica. Along the way, they met numerous friendly travellers and kept in contact with many of them, establishing a very wide and diverse social circle.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Health Services Home Care and the Roozen Family Hospice Centre (Pilgrims Hospice Society) for their compassionate care and supporting service.
At Al’s request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers if anyone wishes, memorial donations may be made in Al’s name to the Cross Cancer Institute or the Roozen Family Hospice Centre (Pilgrims Hospice Society).
Al’s final message: “It is not a sin to live comfortably but it is a sin to not leave the world a better place”.
Bryan Hinkewich says

We will always remember Al as a good friend, a great man on many levels, and certainly a fun and energetic co-worker for many years! Al truly believed that we are all here to help and support one another; and has therefore left us all with a piece of that thinking. We have this to thank him for, and remember him by!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bonita and all of Al’s loved ones. We hope that soon the sweet memories of Al will overcome your loss!!
