It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, that we inform our loved ones and friends of the sudden passing of Brent Ralph Decker, at the age of 60 years on May 19, 2021.
Brent Decker’s formative years were shaped during the 60’s and resulted in a lifelong love of rock and roll, muscle cars and cooking. As much happiness as those things brought him, his family undoubtedly brought the most joy to his life. When Brent and his sister, Kim were kids, their parents, Eunice and Rex took them on many camping trips. Brent’s best friend, Tracy sometimes joined them on these outings. Tracy was present for a lot of family activities as he was like a brother to Brent. These childhood camping trips established a deep rooted passion for the outdoors. He eventually carried this enamour on with his own children, Dustin, Brett and Jordan by taking them on numerous camping trips of their own, as well as many fishing excursions. Brent took great pride in his sons and found fulfillment in teaching them valuable life lessons. To be compassionate, selfless and forgiving. These key lessons, along with many others, helped shape them into the men they are today.
To say that Brent had a heart of gold would be an understatement. He would truly give the shirt off of his back. Those who crossed paths with him immediately felt at ease in his presence due to his kind and loving nature. There is also something to be said about Brent’s unique humour that should not be left unnoted. The ability to make you laugh was effortless for him. From making silly faces to singing songs and confidently changing the lyrics to his own absurdities. Lesley, the boys’ mom, was no stranger to Brent’s antics and grew to love his charming childishness.
Over the years it became apparent that Brent lived with and felt plagued by his mental illness. This eventually became the primary cause of the decline in his physical health. Brent succumbed to heart complications due to an enlarged heart. There is a bittersweet irony in this, as he really did have the biggest heart of anyone. We as a family take comfort in knowing his suffering is no more and wherever he is, he is now with his mom and dad, his best friend and four-legged companion, Venice.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and Rex Decker
Survived by his children’s mother, Lesley Decker; sons, Dustin (Mylene), Brett, Jordan (Kristy); grandchildren, Avery and Logan; his sister, Kim (Dwayne) Bilawchuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
No formal service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
