It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother & uncle Bhupinder Singh Mundi during the early morning of Monday, January 4, 2021 at the age of 81 years (Grey Nuns Hospital, Edmonton, AB, Canada).
He will forever be remembered by the loves of his life, wife Baldev Kaur Mundi and sons Jaspal Singh (Mona) Mundi and Harpreet Singh Mundi. Bhupinder is predeceased by his parents Jiwan Singh Mundi & Jagir Kaur Mundi and his younger brother Shavinder Singh (Parmjit Kaur) Mundi. He will be dearly missed by his older sister Baljit Kaur (late Sarwan Singh) Dhaliwal, and younger brothers Rajinder Singh (Satnam Kaur) Mundi, Ranjit Singh (Hardeep Kaur) Mundi and all members of our large and close knit family.
Born November 16, 1939 Bhupinder was an athletic & studious youth and grew up in Bilaspur, Tehsil Samrala, District Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He advanced his studies at Anglo Sanskrit College in Khanna, Punjab followed by completing his Craft Instructor Training certification at Industrial Technical Institute in Kolkata, West Bengal in 1962.
While completing his certification, he was hired by the Ministry of Labour & Planning for Government of India and started working as a Mechanical Drafting Instructor in various colleges throughout Madhya Pradesh, India for several years before marrying his wife of nearly 54 years on February 26, 1967. The next year they had their first son, Jas followed by the birth of their second son, Harp, in 1970.
He was the first of his family to leave India and his young family immigrated to Canada on June 26, 1974. Drafting Instructor work was not readily available so he quickly retrained as a welder and moved to Kitimat, BC to work for Alcan Aluminum. In early 1981 they moved and settled in Edmonton, Alberta to be closer to Baldev’s family as he continued working in the welding trade.
They provided full support for their sons to complete post secondary schooling and he was proud of their successes in life. He had been retired for many years and in that time helped to bring his nephew and younger brother and his family to Canada as well. He enjoyed spending time at home with his family and loved all manner of sweets as well as dressing up for special occasions. A large extended family across North America, India and beyond have wonderful memories of his gentle, quiet and caring mannerisms.
The Mundi family extends heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of condolences and support from family, friends and community. Due to current pandemic restrictions, a family funeral service will be held and a prayer service is continuing at Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha (4504 Millwoods Road South) until Saturday, January 9th, 2021.
