Bernice “Penny” Blais, 97, passed away peacefully with her son at her side at the Youville Home in St. Albert on Friday, June 28, 2019.
Bernice was born in Edmonton in September 1921. In her early years, Penny worked as a Registered Nurse in the surgical unit at the Misericordia Hospital. She married her husband Charles, an architect, on his return from WWII (RCAF). Together, with a handful of other residents they were the founding members of the Summer Village of Silver Sands and the developers and owners of Silver Sands Golf Course for close to 50 years. “Penny” enjoyed the work but more so loved the people, the customers, the staff and the vendors and they loved her too.
Bernice is survived by one son, Bernard (Judy); and four daughters, Theresa (Rob), Jo-Anne (Al), Karen (George), and Colleen (Francis). She was also a much loved grandmother and great-grandmother.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers on Unit 5 “Safe Haven” at the Youville Home Covenant Health for their loving care for the past 4 years. You are the best. As Bernice would always say, “Thank-you”.
As per Bernice’s wishes, no service will be held.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Covenant Foundation for The Multipurpose Room & Greenhouse Space Project; contact email@example.com.
