I took piano lessons from Miss Biamonte from 1949 to 1951. The lessons were for a half hour on Friday evenings. My father would drive me to her house on 121 St. and either wait for me in the car or visit friends who lived nearby.
I remember that I enjoyed going there and Miss Biamonte would write lots of notes on the music. She also wrote out scales to practice in my Music Dictation Book. Her receipts for the lesson would be written on the bottom right hand corner of my Music Dictation Book. She would give gifts on special occasions and I remember choosing a chocolate owl from a selection of chocolate animals she gave out one Easter. I remember going out the door and her sister asking me what animal I chose. When I told her she said “You chose the wise old owl.”
Miss Biamonte would have a recital every year for all her students and parents. This must have been a lot of work. The lessons and recitals were held in the basement of their home. It was a beautiful home which no longer exists. I know this because when I moved back to Edmonton in 1979 I tried to find it and I think it is now an apartment building.
My condolences to Miss Biamonte’s family.
