WONG, Anthony “Tony” Wing Kei
1933 – 2022
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Anthony “Tony” Wong, of Edmonton on May 15, 2022, at the age of 89 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Catherine (Gregory) Chang, and Miranda (Norry Lee); grandchildren: Alison and Christopher Chang; sister: Wong Po Gin; sisters-in-law: Shirley Chan and Christine Chu; nieces and nephews: Celestina, Andrew, and Catrina Chan; Michael Chu; Melissa and Isabella Wan; Betsy and Candy Wong; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria Fung Lan; and brother, Ben Wing Yiu Wong.
Tony was born in Hong Kong. Although he was trained as a tailor, he worked in various jobs to support his family. He would later tell stories of his adventures at sea and how he had to think outside the box to solve problems he encountered.
In 1976, Tony and his family immigrated to Canada, where they made Edmonton their home.
Tony worked at Amsterdam Tailors until he opened his own shop in 1988. He was the proud proprietor of Tony the Tailor until his retirement at age 65. He maintained contact with the subsequent owners of the shop that still bears his name today.
During his retirement, he enjoyed travelling, especially going on cruises. He continued to lead an active life that included spending time with his family and friends.
He will always be fondly remembered for his generous and caring nature, his sharp-witted sense of humour, and zest for life.
