It is with sadness and rejoicing that we announce that our mother, Ida, passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 18, 2021
Ida is predeceased by her husband Anthony (Tony) and daughter Joanne, survived by her sister Anna Mary Scarfe, two children, Maureen (Blair), John (Linda), two grandchildren Steven and Allison, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Most important, she passed loving her “Heavenly Father.”
Ida grew up on a on a farm outside of Allan, Saskatchewan during the depression and dust bowl. She lived with her parents and nine brothers and sisters. It was during this time Ida developed her incredible work ethic and faith that the future would bring better things. Ida graduated as a nurse and met her husband Tony while working at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. Ida and Tony settled in Edmonton where they raised their family and achieved successful careers. Ida loved gardening, was a wonderful cook, an avid bridge player and persistent golfer. She loved travel, especially Hawaii. Mostly she loved to visit her grandchildren, who would scoot back to bed so Grandma could serve them breakfast in bed.Ida’s special talent was in how she made people feel. She was an excellent listener, never judged and made you feel loved and accepted. She was our family’s biggest source of encouragement, wisdom and sound advice. As a daughter and son, there are not adequate words to express how she loved us, how we loved her and will miss her, how she shaped our lives with such elegance and wisdom, and how she loved and was loved by so many others (cousins, you know of what we speak!). Of course we tease each other about who she liked best.
The Celebration of Life will now be held at a later date. Please note the family has postponed the service for now.
A special thanks to the staff at Westcliff Place who made her last years and especially her last days so dignified and comfortable
