If you were to Google the term “Funeral After Care” what you would most likely find is exactly what one would expect; articles and websites promoting grief counseling, sending cards, sending e-mails, so on and so forth.
These types of activities make up the generally accepted definition of “after care.” However, none of these practices actually address the one, complex, and often times daunting issue families face immediately after services are complete, closing their deceased loved one’s estate.
Our Aftercare Services are provided at no charge and show our concern for the families we serve.
We have a team of six consultants that look after our families so you can find comfort in that we will be there quickly to help you, usually the week after your services.
Grieving families are usually in no position to be thinking about what happens after a funeral.
For most of us, there will never be a day quite like the one following the funeral of a loved one. Energy spent in preparing for the funeral gives way to profound weariness.
People around us ease back into their routine. It’s hard to imagine how anyone could think clearly or even care about the many things that need to be taken care of following a loved one’s funeral.
We, at Connelly McKinley Funeral Homes, understand that this is easily the most common cause of post service stress for families, therefore, the inclusion of an estate closing after care program is a serious consideration for us.
The estate closing process involves extraordinary effort on the part of the named executors and beneficiaries. It requires organization, paperwork, phone calls, tax and legal knowledge, and most importantly, significant effort in the form of the individuals time. We provide this complimentary service to alleviate this burden on a family.

A professionally trained Family Service Consultant helps you begin the healing process by providing valuable “hands-on” assistance with many of the tasks (large and small) that must be dealt with through a detailed checklist of what to do next, whom to contact, how to deal with banks and financial institutions etc. You will also receive our renowned Executors Survival Portfolio.
All our Consultants are Commissioners for Oaths and therefore can certify a variety of documents that may be required to be sent to agencies, including Land Titles. They are also bonded and insured.
This is not simply a document completion service which is offered by most funeral homes. No, Connelly McKinley has made a great investment to provide more to our families. Our program is one that we believe should be the actual definition of After Service Care.
Our Family Service Consultant will work with your family to ensure they are well taken care of for as long as they need them. There is no time limitation on this service.

Are there additional costs for After Service Care?
No! After service care is an exclusive follow-up program from Connelly McKinley to the families we serve. There is no charge for this service.
What is included in the Executors Portfolio?
Whether the estate is simple or complex, an estate settlement resource is needed. Even the smallest estate requires certain steps and correspondence. Our Comprehensive Executive Kit provides options for estate settlement tools that offer you the help you need.
Included: Complete and comprehensive guide to estate settlement, a necessary step that all families are required to face. This resource provides support in a variety of ways including definitions, contact directories, processes, letters, spreadsheets, online support and so much more.
Regularly enhanced and audited by a team of estate settlement professionals, these products offer value that families can immediately recognize and appreciate.
Is the Family Service Consultant employed by Connelly McKinley Funeral Homes?
Yes. All of our Family Service Consultants work exclusively for our funeral home. They are all bonded and insured.
Can the Family Service Consultant come to my home?
If that’s what you feel comfortable with – then sure! Or you can meet our Family Service Consultant at one of our three chapel locations. Most families prefer to meet in the comfort of their own home and may even invite other family members to the appointment for additional support.
How soon after the funeral does the Family Service Consultant contact me?
Some programs like the Canada Pension Plan Benefits, may not be retroactive, meaning if a surviving family member qualifies for survivor benefits, those benefits only begin when the application is made and do not cover the time between the date of death and when the application is submitted. This is one of the reasons why our Family Service Consultants will contact you soon after the funeral (usually within one week of the service). You are also free to call them at 780-590-0626 as soon as you are ready.

We know firsthand how difficult it is for grieving families to deal with unfamiliar tasks following a loved one’s death. We see it all the time. There is so much information that is offered by so many sources after a death.. Most of the time you would be under pressure but we have you covered. With our program, we are already working for you by making all Provincial and Federal notifications and starting things in motion almost immediately after you make arrangements.
Our Signature Family Service Program is our way of showing those who have entrusted us to help them in their time of loss with us that our service to their family does not end with the funeral service. And once again, no additional charges will ever be involved
