On October 4th, John Hensel peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever remembered and cherished by his wife, Katherine and his four children: Barbara (Jim) Bell, Brenda (Brian) Curial, Gordon (Lorna) Hensel and Christine (Tom) Suitor. He was also adored and admired by his eight grandchildren: John, Stephen, Marc, Keith, Michael, Mathew, Katie and Jamie.
John was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Hensel and his siblings: Bill Hensel, Helen Tom, Gerry Tencer and Reverend Allan Hensel. He is survived by his siblings: Sister Ann Hensel, Herman Hensel, Irene Genest, Valerie MacKay and Irvin Hensel.
From his humble beginnings in Czechoslovakia, he immigrated to Canada with his family in 1925 to homestead and farm in the New Sarepta area. After working on the Hensel family farm in his early years, he moved to Edmonton to learn the meat-cutting business and eventually moved into the home construction business. His ability to work long and hard hours while still finding the time and energy to help his immediate and extended families was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, devoted family man, believer of his faith and always generous to others.
The Hensel family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassion and expertise in taking care of our husband and father. You were all a credit to your professions and the hospital. In keeping with Johnís unselfish nature, he would request that his name be remembered by making a donation to the charity of oneís choice.
