It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Walter Michael Kobylanski (Kip) who passed away on September 30, 2011 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. He was 81 years old at the time of his passing.
He was born on May 07, 1930 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he resided most of his life. He attended Empire School and Central Collegiate. His athletic endeavors included playing softball, hockey and football . He was also an avid bowler. Later on in his life he moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta to be near his family and resided there at the time of his passing.
Kip was a devoted sports fan and one of his greatest joys was watching and cheering for his New York Yankees, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and New York Giants.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3395.
He was employed by CN Rail, Kalium Chemicals, and CP Rail from 1971 to 1992 when he retired.
He is survived by his wife Gerry Kobylanski (nee Dawson) of Sherwood Park, Alberta; 4 daughters, Karen (Mike) Devries of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Brenda (Don) MacDonald of Edmonton, Alberta, Roberta (Randy) Lopatynski of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and Diane (Jim) Shannon of Sherwood Park, Alberta; 9 grandchildren, Jason (Leanne) Devries, Brendon and Briana MacDonald, Andrea (Rob) Minarchi, Lindsi, Karly, and Nicholas Lopatynski, and Kayla and Kristyn Shannon; 4 great grandchildren, Emma, Josh and Max Devries, and Dario Minarchi. He is also survived by his brothers- in-law, Ken Poole of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and Pete Lewis of Winnipeg, Manitoba; nieces and nephews, Deanna McNeil of Toronto, Ontario, John Rudan of Mississauga, Ontario, Terry (Edith) Wasley of Denver, Colorado, Gloria Daniels (nee Wasley) of Calgary, Alberta, Pat (Dennis) Huttan (nee Lewis) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Murray Lewis of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is also survived by many other relatives and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Kobylanski; 3 sisters, Jessie (John) Tabesh, Olga (Joe) Wetaski, and Alice Lewis; and sister in-law, Mary Ann Poole.
At Kipís request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A Prayer Service of the Word will be held at St. Josephís Roman Catholic Church, Moose Jaw, on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 8:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Kipís life on Friday Oct 7, 2011 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 561 Home Street West, Moose Jaw.
