On September 24, 2011, Matthew Sullivan, of St. Albert, passed away peacefully at the age of 84, after a courageous battle against cancer.
Matthew (“Mattie”) will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Marie; children Kevin, Brian (Allison), Eileen, and Kathleen; step-children Sonia MacKenzie and David (Sandra) Finlay; grandchildren Nicholas, Kayli, Ross, Ryan and Devon. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada, Ireland and England. Mattie was predeceased by his parents Matthew and Bridget, first wife Jane, brothers Thomas and John, and sisters Bridget and Mary.
Mattie was born in Denbawn, Co. Cavan, Ireland. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada where he began his 31 year career with the Edmonton Transit System. He was also a proud member of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 569 for 52 years.
There will be a Prayer Service at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Parish, 75 Poirier Avenue, St. Albert, on Thursday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
