On Wednesday September 14, 2011 Joan McKenzie passed away quietly at the age of 90 years.
Joan is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 67 years, Bruce; her children, Alan (Donna), Rob (Erica), Sue (Neil) Laurie (Damon) Kathy (Ken); and grandchildren, Tavis, Jacki, Colin, Spencer, Ian, Jim, Tess, Macx and Nicola; great- granddaughters Leia and Isla. She leaves to mourn nieces and nephews and many good friends. Her parents, George and Frances, and her brothers Arthur and Bob Valiant predecease her.
Joan was born in Winnipeg and lived her early years on a farm in Ninga, Manitoba. She graduated from nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1942 and with her RN in 1943. She and Bruce were married in 1944 and moved to Alberta in 1948 where they lived their lives and raised their children with a brief sojourn in Libya in the late 70’s. Joan’s passions were many but the strongest among them were her family, music, curling, golfing, gardening and cooking.
