Nowakowski, John A. Reverend
Reverend John A. Nowakowski of Youville Home, St. Albert, AB. passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 27, at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his brother Henry (Edie), sisters Gloria (Gordon), and Agnes, and by his sister-in-law Rose, also by his brother priests of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton. Father John was predeceased by his parents John (1984) and Nellie “Angela” (2006), infant brother Francis (1931), brother Peter “Willis” (2010) and brother-in-law David (1998). Father John left the family farm near Clandonald, AB, to become a school teacher. After teaching for 1 year, he entered St. Joseph’s Seminary. He was ordained at Clandonald, AB, in an outdoor ceremony in 1959. Father John served at St. John the Evangelist Parish, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Tofield, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital, and then Chaplain at the General Hospital for 25 years. In 1993 Father John retired from his chaplaincy duties and in 2009 he moved to the Youville Home in St. Albert. A Prayer Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home; 10011-114 Street, on Wednesday, August 31, at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be presided by Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton, at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 1st, at St. Joseph\'s Basilica, 10044-113 Street, Edmonton. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton. Donations may be made to the St. Joseph Priests’ Foundation of Edmonton.
