It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Soroka, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend who passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the age of 79. He was a very special man who always had twinkle in his eye and a smile that lit up a room. John was born in Tofield, Alberta and later moved to Edmonton where he met and married Mary Yoniec and started a family. He worked at a foundry but later attended S.A.I.T. and began work as a mechanic for International Harvester, the company from which he retired after working his way up to a managerial position in Calgary.
He was predeceased by his mother Karolina, father Peter, step-mother Sophie, sister-in-law Sylvia, wife Mary, brother Carl and daughter-in-law Sally. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Gary, grandson Michael, granddaughters Stephanie Post and Shannon Demelo (George), great granddaughter Kelsey Szoke, daughter and son-in-law Gail and Jim Wells and his brother Mike. A special thanks to the loving staff at the Fanning Center who have cared for dad the last two years.
A memorial to celebrate Johnís life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 19th at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta
