Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
Joan was born in Markinch, SK in 1932 and attended Sacred Heart Academy in Regina. Joan was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1950. Joan was pursuing an Arts Degree at the University of Saskatoon when she moved to Edmonton and began work for Shell Oil. While there, Joan met and married Albert Andre “Andy” Dame and they began their family.
Joan devoted herself to raising her five children, encouraging them to pursue music, sports, dance and theatre arts. Between driving her children to their various activities, being on the phone committee for each activity and volunteering for the Cancer Foundation, Joan managed to finish her Arts degree coursework at the University of Alberta. Joan convocated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Saskatoon.
When her youngest child entered university, Joan went to work for the Edmonton Examiner. Upon retirement Joan moved to Terra Losa Retirement Residence where she continued to devote herself to her children and four subsequent grandsons.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Caroline Provencal; Paul Dame, his wife Dianne and their sons, Davis and Rory; Norman Dame; Janet Seale, her husband David and their sons John and Matthew; and Marie Dame; sister Fern, her husband Ron O’Byrne along with numerous nieces, nephews, their spouses and children and friends.
