With deep sadness the family advises that Joan Bellows passed away suddenly on Sunday July 10th, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Edmonton on April 6, 1948. Joan graduated from the University of Alberta School of Nursing and the Baptist Leadership Training School. Shortly thereafter she married and raised a family in Edmonton.
She is survived by husband Roger, son Mark (Mandy), daughters Carmen (Kavin Jonathan) and Kathleen (Steve Garbutt), mother Frances Byron, brother John Byron (Bonnie) and his daughters Suzy and Kate. She is predeceased by her father Philip who also died at age 63.
Joan was a nurse through and through, always serving and taking care of others to the best of her ability, even after injuries and health forced her to retire. Joan had impeccable taste, and loved her family, her home, gardening, camping, animals, good music and fast cars. She lived life to the fullness of her abilities despite courageously dealing with Parkinsonís disease for 20 years, enduring injuries and a recent stroke. Joan embarked on rehabilitation undeterred by her many challenges. Her courage, boldness, and dignity resulted in success. She succumbed to unrelated cardiac arrest as she was happily on her way to shop for new shoes. Most importantly, Joan loved the LORD and was sure of her salvation.
A Remembrance Service will be held at First Baptist Church Edmonton, at 11:00 am, on Thursday July 21.
