Dad was born and raised in Toronto. He began his military career in 1944 and retired following 23 years of service. He pursued his second career as an electrician with Falconbridge Nickel Mines and electrical and instrumentation planner with Syncrude and Suncor in Fort McMurray. He retired and moved to St. Albert. Dadís military service included stints with the Special Air Services, Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.C.E.M.E), peacekeeping tours in the Middle East and Cyprus, and numerous military postings within Canada and Germany. During his service, he was awarded various medals including the Voluntary Service Medal, Canadian Decoration with bar and UN Peacekeeping medals. Dad loved his military career and upon retirement became an active Legion member and delighted in his duties as a member and as Sergeant-At-Arms. He was also active with the Eagles Club in St. Albert.
All through his life, Dad enjoyed sports as both a participant and coach. Ringette and softball were among his favourites. During his retirement, he was able to indulge in his passion for golf and enjoyed a new pursuit in curling.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on July 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at The United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, followed by a reception in his honour at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 271. Floral tributes are gratefully declined. The family would prefer a donation to the legion in Dadís name, or to a local childrenís sports team.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Bobís friends for the love and support shown to Dad and our family during his illness. Thanks also to the nursing and medical staff of Unit 17 at the Sturgeon General Hospital for their care and compassion during Dadís final days.
