Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Eva. Mom died peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 90 years.

Eva was born on October 27, 1920, in the little town of Pickardville, Alberta. She lived her childhood, along with her loving parents, Thomas and Mary Anne and six sisters on a dairy farm in Legal. There she attended the French Parochial School. After graduating from high school, she completed secretarial college and it was at this time of her life; in her early twenties, that she met our Dad. Foch Ovide Blouin, a young soldier, was the love of her life. They met at a dance and wrote to each other throughout the war. After Dad returned from the war, they married and decided to forgo farming and try out life in the big city. In Edmonton they raised five children and enjoyed a busy, active life filled with friends, travel, curling, square dancing and living life to the fullest. After Dad’s stroke, they moved out to Stony Plain and lived there for seventeen years until Dad passed away in 1994. Mom moved to St. Andrew’s Centre where she could be closer to her sister, Lucie. With the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease, she later moved to an assisted living facility “Lifestyle Options” in Leduc, where she received much help and kindness from the caregivers. After a brief hospital stay with a broken hip, Mom moved to the “Sherwood Park Care Centre” where she was wonderfully cared for until her death on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Thank you to all the health professionals at this facility; our family will always refer to you as “Angels on Earth.”

Mom was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Foch, and by five of her sisters. Left to mourn her cherished memory is her sister, Juliet of California; and her five children, Bernie (Kathy) of Morinville, Carole (Jack) Poxon of Sherwood Park, Anna (Elmer) MacGillivray of Calahoo, Denis (Betty) of Edmonton, and Georges (Corinne) of Edmonton; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 200 Boundary Road, Spruce Grove. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Edmonton, 10531 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1, or to the charity of your choice.
