Boleslawa Skrocki passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Loving mother of Walter (Teresa), Mirek (Trudy), Helen (Horst), John (Arlene), and cherished grandmother and great grandmother. She is also survived by one sister in Poland (Theodora Grabowski). She was predeceased by her husband Stanislaw Skrocki (1998), daughter Helen Krath (2009), parents Stanislawa and Franciszek Dobkowski, brothers Jan, Edmund and Boleslaw Dobkowski. She will also be missed by many members of her community, church and by relatives in Poland and friends in faith Greg and Janina Spierzak.
Boleslawa was an amazing woman with an interesting life story that was enriched by her faith. Her love of gardening showed through in her collection of plants and her knack for coaxing any flower which did not open to bloom and last.
The warmth of Boleslawa’s eyes broke the language barrier for her non-Polish speaking visitors and the kindness in her expression made all of her visitors always feel welcome. She was born in Zanklewo, Poland towards the end of the Third Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. She married in 1942 while the fruit trees were in bloom to Stanislaw Skrodzki. The couple continued the family farm and started a family. In 1962, the family immigrated to Canada and they lived and farmed in Markerville, retired to Red Deer and then to Edmonton.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Our Lady Queen of Poland Catholic Church, 9906 – 83 Avenue, Edmonton. Interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
