Victoria passed away in Edmonton on September 14, 2012. She was predeceased by her parents Philip and Nancy Wachowich, her sisters Elizabeth Blinston and Adelaide Callahan and her brother Edward Wachowich. She is survived by her siblings Cecelia Kokotailo of Madison Wisconsin, Mary Dumaine of Calgary, Patricia Hlady (Ben) of Grand Bend Ontario, Allan Wachowich (Bette) and Ed’s wife Lucy all of Edmonton, and by her 27 nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.
Vicki spent her early years in the hamlet of Opal, Alberta and attended St. Henry’s high school in Melville Saskatchewan. She went on to study education at the University of Alberta and graduated in 1943. She started her career as a teacher in rural Alberta and then Grandin School in Edmonton.
Vicki was a spirited, independent young woman and it didn’t take long before she began to carve her own path, heading east to live in Montreal. There, she cultivated an extensive network of friends, built a long and successful career with Price Waterhouse as a systems analyst and participated enthusiastically in the cultural life of her adopted city. Her apartment became a favourite destination for her nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to her as “A.V.”
When she retired, Vicki pursued her passion for creative writing and published some of her poems and stories. Her heart was never far from her Edmonton roots and after 62 years in Quebec, she moved home in 2007 and became a welcome addition at Wachowich family gatherings.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff and caring volunteers at the Grandview Extended Care Centre for the respect and kindness they showed to Vicki.
