Obituary

Beloved aunt, Tillie Chinneck (nee Radke), passed away suddenly Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the age of 92 years.

She is survived by sister-in-law Ella (Leo) Radke of Barrhead, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tillie was predeceased by husband William (Bill) Chinneck; parents, Otto and Wilhelmina Radke; siblings Martha, Albert, Edward, Emma, Alvina, and Leo; and nephew James (Jim) Kulak.

Tillie was born in Myrnam, Alberta August 6, 1919 and moved with her family to Mellowdale, Alberta in 1925. She graduated from Normal School with her teaching degree in 1938 and started her teaching career, which spanned approximately 36 years, at Shoal Creek School in Alberta. Tillie moved to Edmonton in 1943 and taught full-time at various public schools until 1974 after which she worked occasionally as a substitute teacher. Tillie had many interests and hobbies over the years including painting, needlepoint, volunteering, and travelling. Her greatest love, however, was for her immediate family members and nieces and nephews. She took great delight in spending time with them and celebrating their milestone events. Tillie was also active in the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) and attended the Women's Canadian Club of Edmonton. For the past three and a half years, Tillie had resided at the Jasper Place Continuing Care Centre. Her family wishes to thank the staff at the Centre for their dedication and care of Tillie. Tillie was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wild Rose Chapel at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, located at 10011 - 114 Street in Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta at 10985 – 124 Street, Edmonton AB, T5M 0H9.
