Obituary

It is with great sorrow and regret that the Gregory family announces Glen's sudden passing. On the last leg of a wonderful two week business and pleasure trip to Phoenix, AZ, Glen suffered cardiac arrest in Lethbridge, AB and left this earth. Husband and best friend to Marianne, his wife of 46 years, loving father to John and Mike, Glen made many friends along the way and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be fondly remembered as a special man who always had a positive outlook on life, a great sense of honour, and most of all for his love for his family, who always came first. Glen was born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, the only child of Irene and John who predeceased him in 1969 and 2006 respectively. At 17, he left to attend Ryerson Institute of Technology but decided after 3 years that electronic engineering wasn't for him. He met Marianne while both were working at Kelvinator and they married in 1966. Glen moved on to Avco Delta Acceptance as an adjustor and was quickly promoted to Branch Manager in Sarnia, Ontario and finally to Regional Manager in Calgary in 1969. Following a trip to Europe he and Marianne settled in Edmonton in 1970 and Glen became a partner in Mid West Mortgage Brokers. He was a founding member of the AB Mortgage Broker's Association and their first President (1975-1977). Following the demise of the brokerage firm, he spent some enjoyable years with various Edmonton mortgage and trust companies. In his later years, he enjoyed the privilege of self employment and began Mid West Realty Limited, selling commercial properties. As retirement approached, he decided that it wasn't all that appealing, and accepted a position as a broker/manager with Realty Executives Meridian. Glen was active in Confederation Park Little League Baseball for 30 plus years. Beginning his baseball experience by coaching both sons in little league, he later became involved as an executive member. He was passionate about baseball and was always thrilled when men he had coached as young boys still recognized him years later. He had many wonderful stories to share with us about the Challenger Division, a baseball program that he was instrumental in initiating for children and youth with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities. He had been an active participant and past president of CASE, the Cardiac Athletic Society of Edmonton and spent some enjoyable years as a volunteer and board member with The Brick Sport Central. His great sense of humour and positive outlook on life will serve as an inspiration to all of those whose lives he touched. Our family would like to thank an excellent team of caring and compassionate doctors, nurses and supportive staff at the Royal Alex Hospital Heart Function Clinic, his Cardiologist Dr. Randall Williams and his family physician, Dr. Jennifer Hall. We are forever indebted to them for the expert care that allowed Glen extra years to enjoy life to the fullest. A Celebration of Glen’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 3, 2012 at Connelly McKinley - Sherwood Park - Mill Woods Funeral Chapel, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton (Meridian Street can only be accessed when heading SOUTH on Anthony Henday – Hwy 216. The exit ramp is WEST of the Hwy just south of Sherwood Park Freeway). Memorial donations may be made to Glen's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 10985-124 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5M 0H9. “A life well-lived is a lasting inspiration”
