With family by her side, Alice passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice at 90 years of age. Born to Joseph and Delvina (Houle) Ethier in Vimy, Alberta, she was part of a large French Canadian family. She spent her childhood in Morinville, raised her family in Edmonton (Calder) and retired in Edmonton and then Red Deer. Alice will be profoundly missed by her husband of seventy years Robert; children: Connie (Dick) Pawloff of Red Deer, Ron Chalifoux (Sue) of Edmonton, Paula Roberts of Red Deer and Denis (Doris) Chalifoux of Spruce Grove; grandchildren: Rob Pawloff of Red Deer, Brian (Cherie) Chalifoux of Spruce Grove, Karen (Brent) Miller of Hinton, Darin (Ashley) Chalifoux of Edmonton, Julian Chalifoux of Spruce Grove and Simona (Taylor) Norum of the Calgary area; and her precious great-grandchildren: Laurel, Jordan, Paige, Nolan and Hannah. Alice is also survived by her sisters Madeline Gravel and Tiny Chabot, and her brothers Emile and Hector Ethier. She was predeceased by her sisters Cecile, Anna, Therese, Aline, Annette, Leah, (Yvonne, baby Joseph, baby Emile, young Hector); and her daughter-in-law Gloria.
Respected for her determination and loyalty in caring for her husband and family, Alice was indeed a special woman. She also instilled in her children a high work ethic: that “anything worth doing is worth doing right.”
The family extends its sincere thanks to: staff on Unit 32 at Red Deer Regional Hospital; Dr. “John” Julyan-Gudgeon; the Parkvale neighbours; and her sisters and brothers for their care, fellowship and support. Special recognition goes to the Red Deer Hospice staff for honouring Alice’s wishes regarding her care.
In respect of Alice’s wishes, a private family Memorial Service was held Friday, May 25th in Edmonton with her youngest son Denis officiating. Interment took place at Holy Cross Cemetery near St. Albert.
