Mercedes Elizabeth, beloved daughter of John McLean Martin and Madeline Alice Martin, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Be at peace.
Mercedes was born in Calgary on August 28, 1955. She graduated from Bowness High School in 1973 and went on to pursue her life-long passion for nursing. Her training years at Calgary’s Holy Cross School of Nursing found Mercedes spending her summers anywhere from Bragg Creek’s Camp Kiwanis to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Following her graduation as a Registered Nurse in 1976, Mercedes chose emergency wards and ICU units to serve her profession, including Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre and New Orlean’s Charity Hospital – her time and experience in New Orleans was especially dear to her heart.
Mercedes was predeceased by her father, John; mother, Madeline; and sister, Corinne Martin. Her love, her smile, her loyalty, and her determination will always be remembered and so sadly missed by her step-mother, Pearl; brother, John (Joyce) Martin; sisters, Barbara (Brad) Grant, Kate (John) Smith, and Ruby (Ross) Matthews; step-family, Rocky, Dianna, and Brett (Kellie) Shaw; much loved Aunt Carlie Jean and Uncle Eldon Godfrey and their family; close friends, Ernie Bruton and Gerry Anderson; and all her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A private cremation service was held on Monday, October 25, 2010.
