Condolences

I had the honor and privilege of teaching with John at Austin O'Brien. He was the consumate professional who was truly admired by colleagues and most importantly his students. The students loved John as a man who cared for their well being and would do anything for them to be successful. My prayers and sympathies go out to John;s family, he will be dearly missed. John and I were both members of the ‘Group of Seven’ who retired from Austin O’Brien High School in 2002. During the 20-some years that we taught together, I knew him to be a devoted, caring and dedicated teacher. For many of those years, he exhibited his dedication by undertaking the roles of student council advisor and department head of social studies; he was consistently one of the most popular teachers in the eyes of both staff and students. Whatever task John undertook was carried out with professionalism and enthusiasm. He was a very well-read man who always seemed to have time for anyone and everyone, and in particular, his students! John was immensely proud of his family, and to them, I extend my deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. I taught with John in the mid 80's at Austin O'Brien. We enjoyed a few laughs together both in school and on the blue line. After school we used to lace up and pretend. John was a good athlete and like me even better after a few pops. The post game dressing room review was full of embelishment that at times included hockey. John enjoyed life and I enjoyed his company. I have had the pleasure working with John and Mike who make this world a better place through being who they are. May his soul rest in peace, Dave

Mr.Dea was my Social Studies teacher at Austin O'Brien high school from 1993-1995. I loved his classes because his passion for teaching history was evident during his lectures. He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eyes, and a heartfelt laugh. My friends and I loved his classes. Often, Mr. Dea would give us 110% on our Social 20 projects which motivated us to work harder. Mr. Dea was a stellar teacher and he will not be forgotten.
